On October 23–25, Lutsk National Technical University was hosting the 8th International Scientific and Practical Conference "Environmental Energy Security." The event is organised by the Department of Ecology of LNTU.
The conference was held in a hybrid format. The plenary session occurred in the V. Bozhydarnik Reading Hall of the LNTU Library, moderated by Vasyl Ivantsiv, Head of the Department of Environmental Studies.
The participants included scholars and students of the Faculty of Agricultural Technologies and Environmental Studies, members of the Department of Environmental Studies, and guests representing environmental organisations and universities from Ukraine and Europe.

With a welcoming address to the conference participants, Rector of Lutsk National Technical University, Iryna Vakhovych, emphasised the importance and timeliness of addressing issues related to energy security and environmental monitoring under current conditions.
At the beginning of the conference, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between Lutsk National Technical University and the Kivertsi National Nature Park "Tsumanska Pushcha."
The agreement was signed by Iryna Vakhovych, Rector of LNTU, and Tetiana Blyzniuk, Director of the Kivertsi National Nature Park "Tsumanska Pushcha."
The signed document aims to strengthen both parties' scientific potential, create conditions for the joint implementation of scientific and practical projects, and conduct seminars and other academic activities.

This scientific forum, held at Lutsk National Technical University for the eighth time, brought together researchers from universities in various countries. The participants and guests of the conference extended their greetings and highlighted the close cooperation with the Department of Environmental Studies of LNTU and the results of joint activities.
Among the speakers were:

  • Lesia Herasymchuk – Head of the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Volyn Regional State Administration;
  • Serhii Dudka – Deputy Head of the State Environmental Inspectorate in the Volyn Region;
  • Oleksandr Borovytskyi – Representative of the Polissia Forestry Office of the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine";
  • Borys Babelias – Head of the North-Western Interregional Forestry and Hunting Management Office;
  • Oksana Ivantsiv – Representative of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University;
  • Oksana Tarabaniuk – Head of the Ecology Department of the Lutsk City Council;
  • Volodymyr Havryliuk – Director of the Polissia Research Station of the NSC "O.N. Sokolovsky Institute for Soil Science and Agrochemistry Research";
  • Volodymyr Myrka – Director of the Cheremske Nature Reserve.

At the plenary session, the following reports were presented and actively discussed:

  • Mariusz Adamski, Dr Hab. Eng., Professor, Department of HVAC Engineering, Bialystok University of Technology (Poland) — "Modelling of Energy Security Resources, Including Renewable Sources, in Poland."
  • Luis Ribeiro, Doctor of Engineering, Head of Department at Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (Portugal) — "Circular Economy and the Second Law of Thermodynamics."
  • Valentyna Loboichenko, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor — "Digital Tools in the System of Collecting Construction Waste Generated as a Result of Hostilities: Architecture and Application."
  • Andrii Bortnik, Director of the North-Western Interregional Centre of the State Institution "Soils Protection Institute of Ukraine", PhD in Agricultural Sciences, Associate Professor — "Ecological and Agrochemical Aspects of the Current State of Ukraine's Soil Cover Under Wartime Conditions."
  • Vitalina Fedoniuk, Associate Professor, Department of Environmental Studies, Lutsk National Technical University — "Prospects for the Development of Agrivoltaics in Volyn in the Context of Climate Change."
  • Olha Zaiats, DNV Poland Sp. z o.o. (Poland) — "Cybersecurity in Renewable Energy."

At the conclusion of the plenary session, Mariia Avhustynovych, Deputy Dean for Partnerships of the Faculty of Agricultural Technologies and Environmental Studies, noted that the results of the fruitful discussions would be further integrated into ongoing scientific research in collaboration with institutions addressing today's pressing environmental issues.

Around 200 participants submitted a total of 86 abstracts across seven thematic areas of the conference:

  • Energy Security of the Natural and Social Environment: Environmental Aspects
  • Resource Conservation and Sustainable Nature Management
  • Environmental Psychology and Pedagogy
  • Environmental Pollution: Regional Dimension
  • Monitoring of Local, Regional, and Transboundary Impacts on the State of the Environment
  • Functioning of Protected Areas, Conservation of Flora and Fauna
  • Agroecology, Organic Farming, and Sustainable Development of Forest Ecosystems

Active participants of the conference included scholars from leading higher education institutions of Ukraine, among them: The National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, Hryhorii Skovoroda University in Pereiaslav, Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University, Sumy State Pedagogical University named after AS Makarenkо, Zaporizhzhia National University, Zhytomyr Ivan Franko State University, Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University, Rivne State University of the Humanities, Sumy State University, and others — in total, more than 25 universities.
Based on the research presented, an electronic collection of conference materials has been compiled and will be published on the conference website. On October 24, sectional discussions were held, which would be summarised in the conference resolution.
