The future of humanitarian demining is being shaped today, and there is a place in it for everyone who seeks change. With this idea in mind, the first AI Labeling Sprint in Ukraine was held in Kyiv, organised by UNDP Ukraine in collaboration with the UADamage project.
We are proud to announce that the Lutsk National Technical University team was selected among the top teams from Ukrainian technical universities to participate in this unique AI hackathon. The team includes students and a faculty member from the Department of Automation and Computer-Integrated Technologies, as well as Applied Mechanics and Mechatronics: Viktor Satsyk – Team Captain, Pavlo Sosnytskyi – Student, Oleksandr Osiiuk – Student, Yevhenii Myronchuk – Student.

The event aimed to advance artificial intelligence technologies for humanitarian demining by creating a high-quality dataset for training AI models.
The sprint's tasks included:
• Annotating thousands of drone images captured in real field conditions, which depict explosive hazardous objects (EHOs).
• Learning to use the Label Studio tool for object recognition and classification.
• Developing teamwork, analytical skills, and responsible digital practices.
Ihor Bezkaravainyi, a Ministry of Economy of Ukraine representative, delivered the opening remarks. Both team-based and individual work in Label Studio focused on interpreting different types of mines. Pavlo Sosnytskyi presented the results of the LNTU "DRONE VISION LAB" team.

We sincerely thank all those involved in organising this event for the invaluable hands-on experience gained with the Label Studio tool, the newly acquired skills in computer vision and data processing, and the opportunity to contribute to humanitarian demining efforts in Ukraine. The event provided positive impressions and emotions, fostered new connections, and inspired future projects.
It is worth noting that this initiative serves as the foundation for creating a national dataset for training AI models that will help detect explosive hazardous objects (EHOs).
The LNTU "DRONE VISION LAB" team is grateful to the university administration for its support and the opportunity to participate in this hands-on educational event.

We are proud to have had the opportunity to represent Lutsk National Technical University at the national level in a cause that is critically important for the safety of our country.
Together towards a safer future!
