On November 14, 2024, in the city of Lviv on the basis of the State Institution "Institute of Regional Studies named after M.I. Dolyshnyi of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine" an international round table "Strategic planning of the development of the Polish-Ukrainian border areas in the context of modern challenges" was held. The event was held in a hybrid format (off-line, online).
The co-organizers of the round table were the Lutsk National Technical University, in particular the Department of Economics, State Institution "Institute of Regional Studies named after M.I. of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine", Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin (UMCS), Lutsk City Council, Urząd Marszałkowski Województwa Lubelskiego w Lublinie, Urząd Marszałkowski Województwa Podkarpackiego w Rzeszowie, Volyn Regional State Administration, Lviv Regional State Administration.
The moderator of the round table was Vasyl Kravtsiv, doctor of economics, professor, director of the State Institution "Institute of Regional Studies named after M.I. Dolishnyi of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine". The format of the event included presentations by invited experts, as well as further discussion of important problematic points according to the round table topic among the participants.
The speech of Bogdan Kawałko, Director of the Department of Strategy and Development of the Administration of the Lublin Voivodeship in Lublin, concerned the strategic perspective of the participation of the Lublin Voivodeship in the reconstruction of Ukraine. The Lublin Voivodeship is interested in the further support of reconstruction processes in Ukraine and has prepared the relevant Concept.
In his speech, the Director of the Department of Regional Development of the Administration of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship in Rzeszów, Dr. Paweł Wais, spoke about the key provisions of the development strategy of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship 2030. The Subcarpathian Voivodeship also developed a Concept for the Development of Communication Relations with Ukraine, which will contribute to the development of logistics infrastructure on the Polish-Ukrainian border .
For her part, Halyna Shirochuk - Acting Director Deputy Director of the Department of Economic Policy - Head of the Regional Development Department of the Lviv Regional State Administration - spoke about the process of updating the Development Strategy of the Lviv Region in response to the modern challenges of war. Target guidelines for the development of the Lviv region were significantly clarified.
The report of Andriy Tkachuk - deputy head of the department - head of the economic development department of the Department of Economic Development, Investments, Tourism and Resorts of the Department of Economic Development, External Relations and Tourism and Resorts of the Volyn Regional State Administration - concerned the specifics of strategic planning for the development of the Volyn Region under martial law.
Scientists Marie Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin (UMCS) prof. dr hab. Andrzej Miszczuk, Director of the Institute of Economics and Finance and Dr. Andrzej Jakubowski, Member of the Presidium of the Committee on National Spatial Planning of the Polish Academy of Sciences, lecturer at the Department of Socio-Economic Geography UMCS, presented information on the experience of forming the Cross-Border Cooperation Strategy of Lublin Voivodeship, Lviv Oblast, Volyn Oblast and Brest Oblast region for 2014-2020.
The head of the Department of Economics of the Lutsk National Technical University, Doctor of Economics, Prof. Shubalyi Oleksandr presented proposals on the selection of priorities for the formation of the Strategy of Cross-Border Cooperation of the Polish-Ukrainian Border Regions in the conditions of modern challenges, in particular in the areas of security, "green", digital and intellectual transformation
Speech by Iryna Storonyanska, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Deputy Director of the State Institution "Institute of Regional Studies named after M.I. Dolishny of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine" and Khrystyna Patytska, Doctor of Economics, Senior Researcher of the Department of Regional Financial Policy of the State University " Institute of Regional Studies named after M.I. Dolishnyi of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine" concerned the issue of strategic planning of the green transformation of coal communities in Lviv and Volyn regions.
Iurii Gordiichuk - Head of the Department of Project Activities of the Department of International Cooperation and Project Activities of the Lutsk City Council, graduate student of the Department of Economics at the Lutsk National Technical University - in his speech spoke about successfully implemented and promising international projects for the development of the Lutsk City Territorial Community based on attracting additional funds as part of participation in EU projects.
In his speech, Andrii Dub, Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor, Senior Researcher of the Department of Regional Financial Policy of the State Institution "Institute of Regional Studies named after M.I. Dolishnyi of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine" and Liliya Benovska, Ph.D., senior researcher of the Department of Regional Financial Policy of the State University "Institute of Regional Studies named after M.I. Dolishnyi of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine" talked about Ukrainian realities and Poland's experience regarding the coordination of strategic and spatial planning documents for the development of territories.
Head of the cross-border sector of the State Institution "Institute of Regional Studies named after M.I. Dolishnyi of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine" Doctor of Economics Khrystyna Prytula spoke about the challenges and strategic priorities of the development of transport and logistics infrastructure in the Ukrainian-Polish border area.
Antonina Gordiichuk, Ph.D., Associate Professor of the Department of Economics of the Lutsk National Technical University and Petro Kosinskyi, Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor of the Department of Economics of the Lutsk National Technical University took part in the discussion of the current problems of the economic development of the regions of the Polish-Ukrainian border.
The event took place within the framework of the international grant project Eurizon ID 829: Structural transformation of the economy of the Polish-Ukrainian borderlands as a response to common challenges of security, green, digital and intellectual transition.
Applicants and postgraduates of educational programmes of all levels in the speciality 051 Economics of Lutsk National Technical University, as well as postgraduates of all years of study at the State Institution "Institute of Regional Studies named after M.I. of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine", joined the discussion of the roundtable participants' reports.
The event was held as part of an international grant project Eurizon ID 829: «Structural transformation of the economy of the Polish-Ukrainian borderlands as a response to common challenges of security, green, digital and intellectual transition».
