On June 4, 1971, the Department of General Science Disciplines was established at the Lutsk Department of the General Technical Faculty of Kyiv Automobile and Highway Institute, and I.I. Orekhovskyi, PhD, Associate Professor, was appointed as the Head of the Department.
On September 1, 1971, the Lutsk General Technical Faculty of KADI became part of the Lviv Polytechnic Institute. According to the order № 510 of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine of October 9, 1975 “On the organizational structure of the Lutsk branch of the Lviv Polytechnic Institute”, two faculties and four departments were created, including: the Department of General Science Disciplines, Head of the Department, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor I.I. Orekhovskyi; Department of Technical Mechanics, Head of the Department, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor V.V. Bozhydarnik.
From 1977 to 1981 on the basis of the Department of General Scientific Disciplines the Department of General Technical Disciplines was created, the Head of the Department was Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor I.I. Orekhovskyi. For a long time from 1981 to 1988 the Department of General Technical Disciplines, and from 1988 to 2000 the Department of Technical Mechanics was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor V.I. Shvabiuk.
From 2000 to 2011, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor V.M. Maksymovych was appointed Head of the Department of Technical Mechanics.
From 2011 to 2017, the Head of the Department of Technical Mechanics was Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor O.V. Maksymovych.
From 2017 to 2022, the department was headed by Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor Y.M. Pasternak.
In 2018, the Department of Technical Mechanics was renamed the Department of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics.
Since 2022, the department has been headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor O.A. Mikulich.
