Research areas of the department:

  • Solid state physics;
  • Physics of semiconductors and dielectrics;
  • Theoretical and applied issues of mathematical physics.

These areas are carried out in:

  • research of functional properties of semiconductor and epoxy composite materials Serhii LUNIOV; e-mail luniovser@ukr.net);
  • mathematical modelling of dynamic systems of particles, biological systems and creation of some program codes (Halyna HUBAL; e-mail h.hubal@lntu.edu.ua);
  • the effectiveness of using systems of orthonormal functions in solving tasks of mathematical physics (Borys HANULICH; e-mail Borus.Ganulich@gmail.com).

The following educational laboratories operate at the department:

  • Laboratory of "Mechanics and Molecular Physics".
  • Laboratory "Electricity".
  • Laboratory of "Electromagnetism, Oscillations and Waves".
  • Laboratory "Optics".
  • Laboratory "Solid State Physics".

The Department of Physics and Higher Mathematics provides teaching of such disciplines as physics, general physics, physics of optical communication, theory of electrical communication, technical electrodynamics, higher mathematics, higher and applied mathematics, applied mathematics, probability theory and mathematical statistics, numerical methods, computer discrete mathematics, discrete structures, linear algebra, mathematical analysis, etc.

The lecturers of the department issue methodological recommendations for students of all forms of education. Educational tasks have been developed for independent work of students, as well as control tasks from the above disciplines. For the current quality control of knowledge, a system of test papers and test tasks has been developed, which are used during the assessment of each academic semester. For all disciplines, there are methodical facilities for practical and laboratory work. Most methodological recommendations are available in an electronic version. In addition, the university's website hosts electronic textbooks and various information that is actively used in the educational process.

Lecturers have developed and updated lecture texts, detailed plans for laboratory and practical classes, sets of test tasks for current and final assessment of students' knowledge. An electronic database (lectures, laboratory tests, tasks for individual work, questions for self-control, literature, etc.) has been created for each discipline.

Activity on the implementation of modern learning technologies is constantly being carried out. Lectures are practiced using multimedia systems, as well as based on reference notes given to students in advance, the use of pedagogical and methodical tasks, business games, and discussions. The best students have the opportunity to study according to individual plans.

Scientific activity of the department solid state physics; physics of semiconductors and dielectrics; theoretical and applied issues of mathematical physics, which are carried out in:

  • research of functional properties of semiconductor and epoxy composite materials Serhii LUNIOV; e-mail luniovser@ukr.net);
  • mathematical modeling of dynamic systems of particles, biological systems and creation of some program codes (Halyna HUBAL; e-mail h.hubal@lntu.edu.ua);
  • the effectiveness of using systems of orthonormal functions in solving tasks of mathematical physics (Borys HANULICH; e-mail Borus.Ganulich@gmail.com).

Research work is carried out in cooperation with the Institute of Semiconductor Physics NAS of Ukraine, the Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute for Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Karpenko Physico-Mechanical Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Department of Experimental Physics, Information and Educational Technologies of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University.

The department has created a research laboratory of solid-state physics, which researches electrical, isoelectric, and galvanomagnetic properties of semiconductors. Currently, this laboratory is implementing the applied research project "Development of the composition, technology of formation and recycling of biocomposites based on materials from renewable sources".

Besides, Associate Professor Luniov S.V. is a co-executor of the target topic of the Academy of Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine "Elementary processes during the interaction of photons and electrons with matter in the gas and condensed phases", which is carried out jointly with the Institute of Electron Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Students are involved in scientific research at the department. There are three scientific circles for students that operate within the department.

The following educational laboratories operate at the department:

  • Laboratory of "Mechanics and Molecular Physics".
  • Laboratory "Electricity".
  • Laboratory of "Electromagnetism, Oscillations and Waves".
  • Laboratory "Optics".
